Biography
Wallace E. Pratt was a pioneer petroleum geologist. He joined Humble Oil & Refining in 1918 as the company's first geologist, and his studies led to the firm securing leases in the giant Mexi field in east Texas. Later, he would set up the company's first geophysics group. Pratt joined Standard Oil, Humble's parent firm, and became a director and vice president, a position he held until retiring in 1945. Pratt received the AIME Anthony F. Lucas Gold Medal in 1948, and was one of the founders of AAPG and a director of API for several years. He died in 1981 at the age of 96.
